Runkel has not only an excellent exterior, but a fabulous interior. Some of the rooms contain an astonishing collection of early armaments.
Restored rooms show how the ceilings were constructed and how the various rooms accommodated day to day life.
Hallways in the restored area are lined with pole arms (below).
Left, an example of one of the restored ceiling cross beams that hold the floor above. Note how the main joist is held by a chock block beneath it. While the restoration is fairly modern, the design method is authentic.
I'm frankly unsure of this stairway to the left... that is, is it authentic or a fairly recent restoration? I believe that it maybe a combination of both, being authentic with some restoration work to make it safe for use. The center pieces as seen in the next photo below show wear and tear of time, and thus lends credence to authenticity.
