Misc. Castles Northeast of Frankfurt
These five castles were seen around 1978 on one of my hiking forays northeast of Frankfurt/Main.  I went out several times in an effort to find an ellusive ruin in the woods northeast of Alezenau.  In the process, I did side trips to the area near Karben.  These photos are the only ones I have and I did not explore these in more detail.  At the time I was more of a tourist than an historian.
Budesheim castle near Schoneck.  The castle is along Route 521 just southeast of Nidderau.

Castle at Kloppenheim.  This can be found along Route 3 just east of Bad Homburg.

The keep of Bad Homburg.  The castle is in the center of the town along with some other pieces of fine architecture.

Burg Grafenrode, located north of Gross-Karben.  When I took this photo I was not sure that the structure in the center was the castle, but recently confirmed this.

The Wasserburg (Water Castle) by Niederdorfelden.  This doesn't look like much, but the castle was along a small stream and had water moats about it.  Recent reconstruction has restored some of the ruins.  It can be found along Route 521 south of Karben.
